BROOKE DOCKYARD RECEIVED INTERNATIONAL QUALITY AWARD
Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation recently received a prestigious quality award, Gold category world Quality Commitment International Star Award by Business Initiatives Directions (B.I.D.) independent quality body based in Madrid, Spain. The award was presented at a Gala Dinner of World Quality Commitment Convention at Hotel Concorde La Fayette on 22nd September 2008 in Paris. CEO/GM of Brooke Dockyard, Ir Zuraimi Sabki and QA Manager, Nuzul Adzwan Sulaiman were present and honored to receive the award. A total of 92 companies worldwide were accorded the award among them 6 Malaysian companies. Besides Brooke Dockyard, the other Sarawak based company receiving the Gold quality award was Subur Tiasa Holdings Bhd.
B.I.D. began its program for quality awards and quality sharing culture in 1986, a 22 year long of history and commitment to quality culture. B.I.D. awarding committee, the “World Quality Commitment” (WQC) is made up of experienced professionals of the business world, specialized in quality and excellence. The World Quality Commitment Jury is presided by Jose E. Prieto, which is also the CEO of B.I.D. The Vice President is Alfonso Casal, a Professor of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Madrid . Amongst the members are Dr. Antonio Martinez and Dr. Enrique Llorente, co-authors of the QC100 model. Presidents of companies awarded in previous years collaborate voluntarily with the jury, presenting other candidates for the World Quality Commitment. The final decision to award to Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation, made by WQC Selection Committee was based on the criteria of the principles of the QC100 TQM , amongst others, customer satisfaction, leadership, planning and decision making, human resource, continuous education and training, ISO9000 and TQM. The Gold Category award is part of series of award from B.I.D., like the Platinum Category and Diamond Category International Star Award, which signifies degree of achievement. Awardees need to work their way up for recognition and prestige.
The awarding process involves series of evaluation, nomination, voting and recommendation exercise, by former awardees and affiliates and matched with information from the press and advertising agencies, consulting firms, embassies, national chambers of commerce, specialized trade fairs and digital and written publications.
“Brooke Dockyard has embarked on its QC 100 TQM Program since the migration of ISO 9001:1994 to ISO 9001:2000 version in year 2003. The Quality Model outlines steps for organization to enhance quality culture in an organization,” enthused Nuzul Adzwan, Brooke’s QA Manager.
Embracing a commitment quality journey has assisted Brooke Dockyard to be foremost recognized as a leading oil & gas fabrication company in East Malaysia having undertaken works for past years for clients such as Petronas Carigali, Shell, ExxonMobil, Murphy Oil and Talisman Energy. Presently, Brooke Dockyard is undertaking works for Shell in building 3 offshore living quarters i.e. F23, F6 and B11 Living quarters.
